MDL is born – A Tribute To The Paths We’ve Taken
It has been over six months since we first launched MDL Immigration Services. It was nerve-wracking to say the least, but it was a very rewarding experience!
Over the past seven years, I was blessed with good working environment. It wasn’t perfect but the experiences I’ve had, honed my skills and shaped my character to prepare me for today.
Now I have spread my wings and created this company. In only seven months, we acquired a new location and hired more staff to accommodate more clients. Was it scary? Yes! The more I get scared, the better I get, because I was scared to make a mistake. I was scared to fail in motivating my staff. Ironically, it became my tool to do better and I continue to push myself to be better.
How do I do it?
A lot of people have congratulated me saying how impressed they were. I have been asked how I managed to open a successful business. It is pretty simple, really. There’s no special steps, no instructions, just research and the drive to reach your goal.
For this purpose, I will share my bit into three points: a) YOU REALLY HAVE TO WANT IT, TO GET IT, TO DESERVE IT b) STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE, NOT ARROGANCE, and c) UNIFY A GROUP THAT COMPLETES YOU.
YOUR REALLY HAVE TO WANT IT, TO GET IT, TO DESERVE IT
Focus on what you want to do and not the end result. Don’t count how much you’ll make. I have always wanted to help other people in my own way, so I started with that. Ten years ago I found my niche when I started as a legal assistant for an Immigration Consultant. Finding my niche was not enough. I couldn’t say that being where I am now was nothing short of a miracle. It took me ten years to hone my skills. I used my passion and knowledge to help other people, and I used that to build my company. Success to me was overrated. Being successful to me was just secondary. The real goal and what drives me everyday is the fact that I can use my knowledge and expertise to help others. Nothing is more exciting than finding out you’ve won a difficult case and the realization that you’ve become a hero of someone’s future. If there’s no passion, then it is just everyday work that you do, not because you want it, but because it is something you have to deal with.
STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE, NOT ARROGANCE
Let’s be realistic here: without a successful case, I cannot be called a successful Immigration Consultant. The line of Immigration is constantly changing. To become successful, you cannot be too comfortable with what you know. Chances are, what you know will be outdated next year. DO NOT be too comfortable because that will be your downfall. There’s always room for improvement, and be a constant learner. A true expert understands that he does not know everything.
UNIFY A GROUP THAT COMPLETES YOU
Let me tell you one thing and to this day, I feel it was nothing short of a miracle when I found my team: Do not find an expert in all fields, because there’s no one who is expert in everything. Find your puzzle pieces and complete the puzzle. I didn’t need to find geniuses, or magna cum laude’s. I needed people who understood they were not perfect and needed the other members to be perfect. Collectively, we are experts. I have unified a group that is now the stronghold of MDL. I have a tech expert, a website wiz, assistants with big heart that empathizes with my clients, and two budding immigration consultants and paralegals to help me bring this company to the next level.
Am I successful? It is difficult to know… because how do you measure success?I believe success is relevant to the audience, hence its subjectivity.
I would rather say I am continuously striving to reach that level. I am more comfortable in saying, “I am not successful on my own, but I am successful with the people I am with in my company”.
